INTERNATIONAL BIG BAND COMPETITION
Saturday, 2 June 2012
Dear Reader,
With our relocation to the new Haarlemmermeer Cultural Centre, the great national and international interest and with 15 years of experience as the National Big Band Competition, Meer Jazz is now taking advantage of the opportunity to invest in accessibility, quality, and internationalization of its competition.
The National Big Band Competition has become the International Big Band Competition!
More international applicants, sharper selection within the classifications, longer playing time, an internationally renowned chairman of the jury, interesting and useful prize packages and in general: higher standards in organizational quality, appearance and presentation!
-
ApplyingThe IBBC offers good amateur big bands from the Netherlands and surrounding countries a stage where they can compare themselves at an international level.
-
Number of Bands and Playing TimeThere are three stages, one for the Top Class and two for First Class bands. The number of bands per stage is reduced to four, with thus a total of twelve big bands. The playing time per band is hereby extended to about forty-five minutes so that big bands can better showcase their full talent.
-
The JuryAs in the past, the jury this year is also made up of top name jazz musicians. An addition this year is Chairman of the jury and top musician of international repute: Michael Abene.
-
The Finale and the Prize MoniesThe number of bands allowed to the Finale remains four: two from the Top Class, and one per stage in the First Class. However the prize packages have been significantly adjusted.
